Hi Swen

There is SECN 3 (BB) and SECN 4 (CC) test firmware available for the WR842 V2 device on the VT Downloads page here:

    http://download.villagetelco.org/firmware/secn/unstable/tp-link/SECN-3/SECN-3-G2-Alpha8/

    http://download.villagetelco.org/firmware/secn/unstable/tp-link/SECN-4/SECN_4.0/Alpha5/

I don't personally have the V2 device for testing (I have V1 device only at present) but I have been working with another user who has tested the V2 firmware.

It did require a change from the V1 firmware as TP have reversed the eth0 and eth1 allocation for LAN and WAN ports between V1 and V2 due to a change of chipset.

The WR841 V10 firmware is still in development with the Openwrt team.

For SECN 4 (CC), we will not be able to support devices like the WR841 which have only 4MB Flash memory as there is not sufficient memory space available to load OpenWrt and the packages we need (eg batman, batctl etc) as the OpenWrt base image has grown too large.

So we have decided to cap development of SECN for 4MB devices at SECN 3 (BB).

If the OpenWrt developers release a BB backport for the WR841 V10 device then I am happy to add it to the SECN 3 firmware. But there is no guarantee that this will happen.

I recommend the use of 8MB+ Flash memory devices such as the WR842 going forward as the 4MB devices are now too limited.

Regards
Terry

How can we help?: Other
Comment: Hello,
I'd love to see vt running on tp-link 841 V10 and even more on 842 V2.

I set up an offgrid-mesh-network with four 841 V9 and a raspberry pi for the services: mumble, etherpad, owncloud, xmpp.

Very cool an usefull project your vt! Hope I never have to use it in an emergency case ;-) But I can, if needed!

Thanks and all the best,

Swen

Hi Swen

I am glad the SECN firmware is working for you.

Thanks for the link to your page on the solar router.
An interesting project and good information for others wanting to do something similar.

regards
Terry

Hi Terry,
thanks for your fast and long answer!

I flashed secn3 on one 842nd V2.3 today. The other nodes are 841nd V9.X. Mesh, DHCP and local SIP work fine. Great!

Here you can find my simple diy solar mesh router. Sorry, in german. https://wiki.freifunk-stuttgart.net/technik:projekte:solarrouter:start

Kind regards,

Swen

The Solar router is cool, but hard to read...would someone volunteer to translate it to English? Thanks
