Hi

I am finally able to call Full IP to different subnets while the MP2 are connected to the Head office(C) via WAN ports, I am using metro network to get Gantsi (A)& Maun(B) Office to connect to  Technotrends(C) as shown on the diagram below.

Full IP worked after I added and changed the following;

config forwarding

        option src 'wan'

        option dest 'lan'

config zone

        option name 'wan'

        list network 'wan'

        list network 'wan6'

option input  ‘ACCEPT'====è I had this line by default as REJECT

        option output 'ACCEPT'

option forward 'ACCEPT'====è I had this line by default as REJECT

        option masq '1'

        option mtu_fix '1'

----------------------------------------------------------

Subnet A is able to call Subnet B and subnet C and vice versa using the full IP.

I am how ever not able to call MP2 that are connected via mesh across the subnet, is there a reason why or its designed that way?

Please note each village has its own Master, softphone is configured on each village, how ever I am not able to call the smart phone extension across the subnets, please advice.

Note that the smart phone is able to call full IP across the subnet to MP2 extension. Is there a way I can get smart phones to talk to each other across the subnets? Please advice.

For the on mesh calling issue, I suggest reverting the firewall changes one by one to see what has caused the issue.

Re softphone calling across subnets, that will require reworking the dial plan as it is beyond the scope of the original design.

You will probably need to do something like allocate softphone numbers within the 255 IP address range (instead of 300...)
so that you can use full IP dialling for the softphone extensions.

There may also be other ways of solving the problem eg using IAX.

Hi Terry

Re softphone calling across subnets, that will require reworking the dial plan as it is beyond the scope of the original design.

The dial plan is it something I can do here or you will need to get done by your development team?

You will probably need to do something like allocate softphone numbers within the 255 IP address range (instead of 300...)
so that you can use full IP dialling for the softphone extensions.

Do you have manuals on how to get the softphone numbers assingned via IP address instead of the 300?

I want to explore that please share the URLs.

Sly

Softphone calling across subnets is really an Asterisk design issue, and there are no doubt several ways to solve it.

In the SECN firmware, the softphones are registered with the instance of Asterisk running on the Softphone Master node. So they are just Asterisk extensions with numbers starting from 300. This has been done simply as a convention so that the MP-FXS devices can use the extension numbers corresponding to their IP address in the 1 to 255 range.

It's been quite a while since I looked at this stuff, so I am a little out of touch on the detail, but it may be possible to place a call to a softphone on a different subnet by using the IP address of the Softphone Master node and the extension number of the softphone. You would obviously have to adjust the firewall rules to allow access through the WAN port. And the node would be carrying the traffic for all simultaneous calls, so it could get fairly busy.

All this could get fairly complicated pretty quickly in terms of design and usage in real world networks.

It may be simpler to consider an alternative approach.

The SECN firmware allows you to register MP nodes with an upstream VSP for the purpose of allowing calls to be made outside the local mesh network.

You might consider taking an approach like this, where you set up an instance of Asterisk operating as a "global" server across your various subnets, so that a phone on one of the subnets can make calls to any other phone via the server. You would probably need to use a more complete implementation of Asterisk eg running on a dedicated PC or similar hardware rather than the cut down version running on router hardware.

There are several pre-configured Asterisk (and Asterisk-like) implementations that you could look at using for the central server eg Trixbox, FreePBX, PBX In A Flash.
