When the firmware is initially installed the password for the root account is not set up.
Telnet is working and there is no authentication on the web interface.

When the password for the root account has been set up, telnet no longer operates and you use sdh for command line access. Similarly basic authentication is operating on the web interface.
In both cases you use the root account credentials for access.

Does that help?

I try to connect to it using ssh with the keys "root" and "admin". I always denies access.

Dear Terry
I have facebook-chat with Dante and I guess they came with password. Is there any way through IVR to setup a new password?

yes, but denied access. also restores the factory settings using the IVR and still the problem persists.

Hi Carlos

Thanks for doing that.

The standard SECN firmware does not have the password set.  It may be possible that the units have somehow been shipped with some different firmware, or have been configured somehow with the password set after flashing.

@Dante - Can you confirm which type of device you have please - MP02 or MP02-Phone model?
Also if you can email me directly with some details of your order I will follow up with the factory.

Meanwhile, it is probably best to put the units into Failsafe mode and reset / reload the firmware.

There is a wiki page about this here:

I suggest that the first approach should be to use the Ping or Timing method to enter Failsafe mode, then run "firstboot" and "reboot -f" commands to reset the device to its initial firmware installation state.

Regards
Terry

the units are MP02- phone model, these 10 units we acquired through a friend (Manuel Flores) were sent to Miami around a month.

Is it possible that they were used before you got them and the password has been set?

not, the MP02 are stored. so far I have only taken three units for testing. of the three units two have presented the same problem.

OK so you have one unit out of three working correctly and you can get into telnet and web interface.
Is that correct?

If so can you capture the splash screen at telnet login and send it to me please?

Also the firmware version shown in the top right of the web screen.

This is the unit that is not a problem, you can telnet to enter a new password. Carlos Martinez as mentioned we could restore to defaults but I have not found the best way.

OK I will check with the factory.

Are you OK to try putting the other units into Failsafe mode and doing the firmware reset?

I have to read to try tomorrow I will review the other units, to verify their status as the next weekend will be installed.

Yes it would be good to test all ten units to see how many are locked with a password.

The Failsafe mode and reset process is pretty straightforward.

ok and enter thereby, use passwd to set the new password but will not let me keep it.

Ok
1- I went into failsafe mode, using telnet 192.168.1.1

2- try using the passwd command to change the password, but not allowed because the file is read-only.

You can reset the firmware to the state it was when first installed by running the "firstboot" command
followed by "reboot -f"

This is usually the simplest way to recover to a known state.

If you want to try and modify the firmware you have to run the "mount_root" command first.

When you have made the change, then use "reboot -f" to restart.

You may find it easier to just remove the password files /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow

problem solved.
Terry and Carlos. thank you very much for your help.
I am new to the world of MP02. I hope soon to share the experience of "rural communication system" in which we use the MP02. Thanks again for your time and goodbye.

Hi, Dante,

How do you solve this problem? We shipped the MPs and this is the first time we have heard about this problem. If you can provide us more info, that will be great for us to improve.

Best Regards,

Edwin

Hi Dante

Good news.

Please let us know some details of your implementation.

SECN-2 firmware is now obsolete as it is based on OpenWrt AA and an early version of Batman-adv which is not forward compatible.

It should only be used in networks where mesh compatibility with MP01 devices is required.

SECN-3 firmware is based on OpenWrt BB and will be maintained, along with SECN-4 which is based on OpenWrt CC, using a common codebase.

SECN-4 is only suitable for devices with at least 8MB Flash memory such as the MP02 due to the increased size of the OpenWrt base firmware. It is currently available in Alpha form for test purposes.

Regards
Terry

Edwin.

The problem was that the MP02 had a root password. I could not access the router using Telnet or SSH, but Terry recommended to me in Failsafe mode and using the "fristboot" command followed by "reboot -f" firmware returned to their factory settings. Once I have done that using "telnet 10.130.1.20" could enter the router and using the "passwd" command will set the new password for root.

Terry
Taking as an example the work of villagetelco, Carlos and I have designed and implemented a communication network in a rural area of our country (El Salvador). In this rural area a few months ago a project was conducted to bring the Internet using antennas UBIQUITI (see link), all this with the support of their own people. We've done the first test using MP01 and NS2 (these units belong to the National University of El Salvador) which was successful, we now have to install 10 MP02 support in order to bring the place analog telephony.

And we are in the process of applying for financial aid wing NS2 buy 5 pair in order to give more coverage as the vegetation of the area is the main problem to overcome.

This project has great expectation on the part of the community as it is an advance in social development because they allow residents to communicate quickly and at no cost.

Thank you very much for your time and help.
