May you please kindly assist with any information on setting up a 3G USB modem as a gateway for MP02. I'm using a Huawei E303 model for internet access and followed all the WAN steps for configuring the 3G USB dongle as a internet gateway but I cannot seem to get a internet connection.

The device is detected with Vendor ID and Product ID displayed on the web config page (by the way I used WIFI to connect my laptop and MP02 to access the config web page)

I also set up a unique WiFi profile on my laptop for the SSID “VT-SECN-AP” with the password “potato-potato”. Set the WiFi IP address manually as 10.130.1.121 with subnet mask as 255.255.255.0

I then followed all the steps for USB Modem WAN Mode from the following link:

http://wiki.villagetelco.org/SECN_WAN_Options

WAM PORT = USB-MODEM
WAM IP MODE = DHCP

Internet service provider = 8ta SOUTH AFRICA
APN = internet
USB Serial port = 0
Dial string = *99#
username = guest
password = guest

Though I did not use the username, password and pin values as I don't need to login when I access the internet via the 3G modem on my computer.

I left all the other default setting as they are but I have noticed that after saving my changes the LAN Gateway values changes from 10.130.1.1 to 255.255.255.0

Please assist.

It looks like you have set up everything correctly.  What version of SECN is installed?

You can check the "dmesg" command output and the "logread" command output to see what is going on.

But there is no guarantee that the E303 (or any other particular modem) will be supported "out of the box" with the default SECN configuration and the version of usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data installed in the version of SECN installed on the MP02.

You can check the versions installed with the command:

     #   opkg list_installed | grep usb-modeswitch

The E303 is a normally used as a "CDC" modem, but can be switched to the older Serial mode.

You may have to do some research to work out whether there are some additional settings required to get the E303 working.
Others have reported success with this modem on OpenWrt.
Some links that might be useful:

In some situations where I have been unable to get particular modems supplied by the local telco to work directly with the MP02, as a last resort I have used them with a locally purchased TP-Link MR3020 to provide the modem function, and connected to the MP02 via Ethernet.

Regards
Terry

Hi Terry, I decided to go with the last option connecting to MP02 via ethernet using TP-Link MR3020 and it worked fine.

Thanks,
Makhosini
