Hi All,

The Program on Liberation Technologies at Stanford University (LT) has been going strong since circa 2006. Since then, LT has helped thousands design, use, and research technologies that foster the public good.

Recently, the decision was made to spin off LT as an independent entity. I'm one of the people tasked with doing so. Here are LT's major needs:
  • Recruit people to develop a new website, logo, and graphics.
  • Identify a legal jurisdiction with strong security and privacy laws and regulations and a server provider with a stellar reputation at protecting user security and privacy to host the site.
  • Determine whether to maintain LT's mailing lists on Mailman or to transition them to a content management system (e.g., Discourse.org).
  • Assess the best legal structure for LT (e.g., digital cooperative).
Any ideas? Thanks for your help and advice.

Best,
Yosem

P.S. I'm sending this email on behalf LT's co-founders and not Stanford University.

I’m in as a Volunteer to help any way I might. Though I suspect not necessarily in the ways you have listed as I am retired.  This is very important work and what Technology should in my view be used for – Advancing HUMANITY. My email is wa...@gibbo.net.au.  We here in Australia are struggling with the issues of Aboriginal and other disadvantaged people living in supposedly a developed Nation and Technology is not being deployed responsibly to help people who need and who in fact adapt to it readily plus institutionalised corruption is rife in that area. As an Ex General Manager in the largest Telco in the region now a Volunteer / Director and Mentor in Remote Aboriginal communities I am definitely interested and I might be able in some small way to assist. Not sure how?   On another note I have been involved with a group of ordinary Citizens exposing large scale Corruption and bad behaviors (Racism and bullying as some) in some regional Local Governments , using social media. It has been quite successful and is instituting institutional reform from legislators down.   I also have seen Village Telco be very successful in enabling communities that do not otherwise initially present a commercial proposition to either Government or Industry……Village Telco being a Technology Catalist or enabler for change.
