WB Pro has an ancient bug:

When you try change the name of a widget using the input field in the toolbar, and click on some other widget, the new name is forgotten in almost 100 percent of the cases.

Checking and unchecking the "create inst var" checkbox after changing the name always works.

Hi again,

Since this is really an annoying bug, I just thought I'd add a little nag post to this group ;-)

Hi, Joachim,

I played around with version 8.5 of WB PRO. the only situation in
which I lost a name was when I selected something that did not have a
name, like the title of the window or the canvas behind the widgets.

What other scenarios cause you to lose the widget name? If the list is
long, perhaps you could submit a case directly to vast support (vast-
sup...@instantiations.com)

Regards,
Solveig

Solveig,

I need to check with my customer which exact version of WB they are using. I'll come back to you with more details.

In their case, almost all changes get lost, including renaming a widget.

Solveig,

they use V8.0. There's no specific list of scenarios.
One of the use cases that shows the behavior is copy&paste of a widget, change the name and click on some other widget. Most of the times, the new name is lost.
I've just tried with a radio button and a text input field.

Following the pattern: paste the widget - change the name - check and uncheck the "create inst var" checkbox, click on another widget helps prevent the loss of the name change. I guess you could also click on any other item on the toolbar instead of that checkbox...
