Fun to look at
By Joel L. Watts
My daughter loves Monsters' Inc and I guess so do I, so I was excited to see this, given her other love -- doll/toy houses. This is almost pure Monsters' Inc, so a child, or cough cough and adult, who knows the movie frontwards and backwards will have a little fun with it.
The first day she just sorta looked at it. It is not as interactive as one would think, at the start. But soon, my three year old was playing with it moderately. It seems that once you get down to it, there is a lot of activity here that one will not easily find in other toys of the genre. It just takes a bit to notice it. Once she gets into it, she does play with it just a little longer than her Dora house. Of course, I guess Dora and the guy with the big eye do sorta get along.
The durability cannot be beat. Don't tell anyone, but on the second the third day we had it, it fell down several stairs out our house and nothing broke.
Over all, this is a toy. Who cares about the
educational value of it? I don't. Sure, it helps with fine motor skills and name/face/character recognition along with imagination -- carrying the story along but only genetics will make your child a super genius, not a toy -- not even a toy as fun as this one.

Initially, this toy will be hit with any child who's a Monsters Inc. fan, but unless they have a REALLY great imagination, they might lose interest in it within a day or two. The set up of the scare floor isn't great and it doesn't seem like a lot of thought went into the details that would make this toy really fun. My five year old son was super excited when this arrived and he played with it non-stop for two days, but then he grew bored with it and went back to playing with his Ninja Turtles. This toy is a good idea, but definitely needs more for it to be a hit for longer than a couple of days.

Works very well with other Imaginext sets
By a
My daughter is a big fan of Fisher-Price Imaginext. She started her collection with an elaborate Bat Cave a couple of years ago and has slowly folded in a variety of super hero vehicles, figures, and accessories. (It's worth noting that the similar Playskool Heroes sets are exactly the same size and very compatible, so my daughter can pair DC's Batman and Marvel's Spider-man together for adventures.) That said, this was the first time she received a Disney set from Imaginext.
Immediately she realized that she could easily combine her figures and sets together for a fortress of entertainment that takes us our entire coffee table. It wasn't long before Robin was speeding after the Joker on a motorbike through the Monsters Inc. Scare Factory. But that's what playtime and imagination are all about, and in that respect, this set really delivers. Imaginext toys are durable and of a high quality. They're also fun and intricate and encourage shared playtime between
parents and children. I enjoy getting down on the floor and playing around with elaborate, creative sets such as this Scare Factory.
With lots of doors and accessories, plus two key figures (Mike and Sulley, of course), there's plenty to keep a child occupied and content without demanding additional figures. This is the kind of set, sort of like the Star Wars Ewok Village I had as a kid in the 1980s, that really inspires creativity and takes a long time for little hands and little eyes to explore. Another great product from Imaginext that my daughter thoroughly enjoys!
