Nam is pricey? You must be from Norf.

We found a couple last year, but I'm afraid I have no recollection of

Yep Norf Worcestershire, but then Nige would call it the soft
sarf...its all relative.
Where I live is cheap, when TOG comes here he always has 3 pints in
the village pub, he claims at our prices the third one is free!
Just looking for the inside track on where to go.

The centre of Cheltenham isn't great for pubs at the weekend nowadays
(IMO) - too full of places full of kids with lots of music.
There are, however, still some damn good restaurants. Paul has
mentioned Franco's, which I haven't been to for a while, but still
seems to have a good reputation. Another great Italian place is
Giannis - not in a very prepossessing location (by the bus station)
but great food at good prices.
At the moment my favourite place to eat in Cheltenham is Curry Corner
- easily the best indian restaurant I've ever eaten in. I'm trying to
restrict myself to one visit a month

You were there when we had our weekend out? You should have come over
and said hello.
Why are you calling it Nam btw? Locals might disagree with me but I'm
sitting here thinking it's making you look something of a cunt.
Because I can't be arsed to type the full name out. It's also part of a
joke.

Sadly, pubs are going the way of shops, with homogenisation. Every large
town/city seems to have a Yates, Walkabout, Lloyds etc.

I've been in Giannis. The food was pretty decent. The fuckers did try to
charge us for the caraffe of red wine the waiter knocked over.
Seems I'm out of date as far as pubs go. I was going to recommend the
Suffolk Arms on the A40 outer ring road, as a freindly place. Seems it no
longer sports a rainbow flag over the door.
Here's the CAMRA list, if real ale is your thing

And that's something new in the last 15 years? You left out the
ubiquitous Wetherspoons. Most towns used to have an Edwards too, but the
pubcos change the brand names every so often.

The AA Pub Guide has never let me down.
Except when I was up near Ipswich and looking for somewhere for Sunday
lunch. Picked a likely candidate out of the two-year-old book I had in
the car and V phoned to book a table.
Felt a bit awkward when a groggy voice answered the phone. The landlord.
Or, rather, ex-landlord, probably sleeping off a hangover to dull the
pain of his existence, the pub having been closed down by the brewery a
couple of months previously and him being unemployed.
Sorry about that, fella. I've got a new copy of the book now.

Another vote for both of those places from me. For Chinese, The Mayflower
has always been very good.

Well, Lloyds are Wetherspoons owned and the inner cheapskate in me likes
Wetherspoons. Nothing like having a breakfast bloomer washed down with a
couple of pints of Old Thumper. Makes visiting the sprog in Portsmouth
bearable.
Christ, yes - I should have mentioned the Mayflower. Bloody great,
and has been for over 20 years.

Well, yes, but I don't know anything about pubs, so in true ukrm
fashion I posted about what I do know about.
