This is something I didn't know. I send a lot of postcards out first class.
I know one of the regular posters to the news group works for the post
office. Can you please tell me if this is true?

I don't work for the PO but I am pretty certain this is untrue - the
machine reads the stamp - it has no idea what the stamp is stuck on
IYSWIM so if it's first class it goes first class - which is still
about a week ;o)

Best way is to go away from your local area (else you'll get them both next
day) and send yourself 2 cards with different class stamps on and see when
they arrive.

I think this has been well established a an urban legend.
