This has just been posted on plusnet.service.status newsgroup.

"We have become aware of an issue affecting our email platform.

Customers are getting 'unable to find server' errors or are being asked
for the username password for the email account they are checking.

Our network engineers are investigating and further details will be
provided as they become available.

And this was posted an hour ago:

been having trying to connect to our email servers.

Our engineers believe they have found and fixed the cause of the
errors. Our engineers will monitor the email servers over the next few
hours to confirm everything is working correctly.
