If you say you're coming out tomorrow, aren't you effectively coming out

OK, so you might not come out of the closet tomorrow, but we now know that
you are in the closet.

Closets have nothing to do with it. Consider the following:

The door bell rings and I open the door. A friend stands
outside and says: "Can you come out to play?" I reply:
"I'm washing my hair today. I shall come out tomorrow."

That is a perfectly idiomatically use of the sentence "I shall come out
tomorrow", isn't it? No closets and no coming out today, er... yesterday.

Nobody has suggested that Peter Percival (or Justin Thyme, or any other
appellation that might spring to mind) is your real name, merely that you
are the person who used to post here under the name of Peter Percival, a
conclusion I had reached myself at about the same time as Sid Nunc. If

It's been obvious for some time in a.u.e. I'm not bothered about
nomenclature, the content of posts is more important. I understand that
some people have an unmet need to stir up fights and turn to newsgroups
for that purpose. But others are not required to rise to the
provocation. I know it's sometimes difficult to resist but it does tend
to make for an unpleasant atmosphere in the end.

It's very much like dealing with toddler tantrums.

It's a bit odd when someone keeps changing their ng name. You were
Frederick Williams, then Peter Percival and now you're Justin Thyme. Is
someone stalking you?

No. There are lots of people here who post opinions that I don't agree
with, but they express them with grace and cinsideration usually and
genuinely hold those views rather than throwing them out for effect like
you do i.e. trolling.

You have every right to do whatever you like here as long as it's legal

and to ignore you. The only reason I'm not this time is that I saw your

In Turkish there is a name sometimes given to sons after around
the fifth one - "Dursun".

It means "let it stop".

Some of us eldest children suffer from full blown Infant-naming Fatigue
syndrome.

In fact, my parents never really came up with any names for me. I'm told
that as they had no ideas at all about what I should be called, the
nurses/midwives/whatever started calling me by a suitably seasonal name,
and they just went along with it.

not i; i'm the oldest sibling. i merely suffered from "father with
ridiculous array of forenames decides not to repeat the effect". i
don't actually mind. (the surname's bad enough; anagrams, near misses

It's a whole lot easier now that most parents know (or can choose to

Yes, I'm happy enough with it and always have been. I certainly can't
imagine having any other name now.

I don't think of my naming very often, and it was only when I wrote it
down above that I thought of it as being sad. It may be that the story
was distorted in the telling/hearing. Perhaps I should picture Ma and Pa
hearing the midwife using the name, and thinking what a lovely name it was.
