He's at least the second Tonight Show host to have to beg off an episode due to injury.  Conan smacked his head at the end of a race with Teri Hatcher in 2009.

(J-Stew's injury was part of the recent TDS clip piece showcasing his poor health)

To steer it back to being on topic, it appears that the injury happened away from the show.  For some reason I assumed it happened while at work.
