I liked Viola Davis more as the brilliantly miscast* Molly Crane in the Jesse Stone movies than as a ruthless defense attorney. The only character that seemed in any way compelling to me was Wes' nextdoor neighbor Rebecca. 


*Molly was a petite Irish redhead in the novels... I can't think of a better example of casting against type and making it work

It's insanely distracting that Wes looks exactly like C. Thomas Howell
in the 1986 non-classic "Soul Man". Yes, the one where he's in dark
bodypaint to get a college scholarship intended for black students.
Perfect match.
