They intend to burn off the last of the produced segments with Clarkson. May and Hammond will cohost the episode from the studio.

I've seen countless unconfirmed rumors about the fate of the show and its hosts, but nothing confirmed. The most repeated is the three hosts are heading to Netflix, but considering May and Hammond host other shows for the BBC... shows that are unlikely to make the move to Netflix... it seems unlikely they'd break their Beeb contracts. The other unconfirmed rumor is Hammond and May are being offered a million pounds an episode to continue hosting Top Gear, with the third host being somebody new every week. All speculation. The only thing confirmed is this single episode.

From what I can tell, Hammond and May are no longer under contract with the BBC for Top Gear, and whether they are or aren't under contract with the BBC for other shows, they don't appear to be exclusive contracts.  Each has done shows for other networks in the past.  And I recall Clarkson and May making oblique references (presumably better understood by the UK audience) to such on Top Gear itself - Hammond having a morning show on ITV or something.

Hammond's quoted on Wikipedia as saying "amidst all this talk of us 'quitting' or not: there's nothing for me to 'quit'"

Except May's TV work outside the BBC is 'Inside Killer Sharks' for Sky.
(according to wikipedia) and one-offs for ITV ('06) & Channel 4 ('98).

Hammond has done a fair bit more outside of the BBC (NatGeo, ITV) but
he's been mostly employed the Auntie. Interestingly, he signed a
no-compete contract with the BBC which led to him leaving Brainiac:
Science Abuse.

And that kind of seems to be the thing people overlook. Clarkson wasn't
sacked & Capt Slow & Hamster didn't quit. Their Top Gear contracts ran
out & they either didn't renew (RH & JM) or weren't offered a new
contract (JC).

The special airs on 28 June, and there'll be an all-new line up for the next series led by Chris Evans:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2015/chris-evans-to-lead-new-top-gear-line-up?ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbc_press_office&ns_source=twitter&ns_linkname=corporate

Evans is best known as a radio presenter - his breakfast show is the biggest in the UK. (Some years back I worked with him at Virgin Radio). He also presents one episode a week of The One Show on BBC1. I imagine that he'll give up the latter and it'll affect the former.

Bad idea, as it turned out... neither pic went through, did it?

Nope. But it's nothing a little Googling can't solve.

Here's what I'm wondering - will "All New Top Gear" be a continuation of the Clarkson/Hammond/May era, or will everything get reset (including deletion or rebooting of popular segments, like SIARPC, Cool Wall, etc.)?

And what about The Stig?

I would imagine that it'll be the same but different.

Here's an interesting thing. Last Friday, Chris Evans presented an anniversary edition of his old TV show TFI Friday. This interview/music/general madness show ran for five years from 1996-2000. This was a 19-year anniversary special featuring old clips and new material. I think 19 year because someone at Channel 4 couldn't count and they thought it was funny and went with it. It won the slot on Channel 4 on Friday night - Channel 4 rarely wins its slot. One of the guests? Jeremy Clarkson. And because the Top Gear track can be hired by "anyone", they tried to beat the Top Gear lap record in a Ferrari using a racing driver. He failed by about 2 seconds, which is fair enough because it was slightly wet.

Another Evans story. He decided he wanted to woo Billie Piper (i.e. Rose in Doctor Who and currently to be seen in Penny Dreadful). She was an 18 year old pop star who had appeared on TFI. He went out and bought a Ferrari, filled it with roses and gave it to her. I believe at the time she couldn't even drive. Anyway, they ran away to Vegas and got married. (They've since separated and these days Piper's partner is Laurence Fox of "Lewis" fame, and son of actor James Fox).

Anyway, that's a long way around of saying that Evans is interested in cars, has a garage full of some very expensive ones, and likes doing silly things. So I reckon the silly films and stunts will still feature. Whether the rest will be the same or not? Who can say. I reckon they'll shake it up to an extent.

Evans was featured on Top Gear twice, if I remember correctly.  (Wiki says I don't, he's been on thrice.)

M-D November, to my picture-embedding gaffe:

THR (link) provided a few things people need to know about British Evans.
