When he and his crew were kidnapped in 2012 in Syria, Richard Engel was told the captors were supporters of that nation's not-too-popular president Assad; now that the NY Times uncovered that they in fact were an independent group of criminals with no permanent ties to anyone, Engel -- well-aware of what went down in the BriWi sitch -- took to the Peacock's site to clarify (link)... most of the details had to be reconstructed with help from sources in and out of the region, as the area where they were held is far more volatile than when they were taken...
