That's 'cuz the deal is for the whole season, ostensibly changing NFLN's role in the weekly scheme...

Claire Atkinson in the NY Post (link) adds that the package will also include a stake in the league's network, something they've already unsuccessfully offered to ESPN, explaining Bristol's disinterest in a deal...

When I read the original article, I immediately noticed the absence of Bristol. Here's the key quote from the Post article:

"Sources said the NFL also held discussions about selling the network to ESPN, but that deal fell apart because the league had tried to retain control over what games would actually appear there."

"This time around, ESPN appears to be absent from negotiations. ESPN declined comment."

I don't read that as a connection between the two. This kinda confirms what I thought on Monday: Burbank is reining in Bristol.
