hi everybody,

we know that TG has a huge community but we lack the information on
how many great TG applications are out there. let the community know
about your application/s, your TG version and if possible url.

Good idea, my project is almost ready for its first release. The backend
is almost complete but the front end will take some time.

How do you suggest we let people know?

I always had the idea that there should be a website for the TG community.
While turbogears.org is good for the project itself it lacks the community side, also the framework website in my opinion should be minimal with only tutorials and download.

It would be great to see a website with news on TG, tutorials, blog posts, reviews of available extensions and a section where people can showcase their TG websites.
I always avoided making one because I would lack the time to keep it updated, but if anyone wants to focus on such a mission I would support it however I can and I can probably also write a bunch of tutorials and blog posts from time to time.

That would also have the benefit of making possible to keep the TG doc cleaner and minimal so that it's easier to keep it on sync from release to release, demanding more complex tutorials to the community website.

Hi,

We have these sites powered by TurboGears 2:

------------------------------------
http://abcmutations.hegelab.org

This got over 600 hits in the first month, in February 2012
and has been published here:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22693078

------------------------------------
http://slc.bioparadigms.org

This will be launched in January. When the 2012 review in Molecular Aspects of
Medicine will be published - this site will be mentioned in the notes of the
editor of this thematic issue, almost on the first page.

------------------------------------

Best regards,
Tamas

I'm confused, isn't that what the "Who's using it" page of turbogears.org is for?

It could need some polishment - maybe some categorization, maybe screenshots, maybe an submission form for new projects to make it easier for one of you devs to just add the entry there.
Or maybe include the "Applications" category from the cogbin there, too.

Cheers,
Moritz

It should have been, but due to the fact that people have to send an email to the TG developers and no one is actually in charge of keeping it up to date it's not really updated.
Probably a more community centric process where people can submit it and website maintainer only has to approve/reject would be easier to keep updated.

True, but I have the idea that the framework website should be much more simple. With the only target of making easy for new users to install and start using the framework.
The more we add to the website the more it might confuse new users, that's the reason why I'm in favor of a separated community based website for things like advanced tutorials and a section about projects using TG.

Not that I actually ever spent much time thinking and confronting with the other guys about this. It's just something that I feel it would be right to do.
I know that Michael is working on much simpler website rewrite which is based on RST, but I don't know how much is complete and how the community parts like the "who is using TG" page would be managed.

First, I'd like to say that Tamas's updates are now on my list of things to get done. It's not a huge list, but I'm catching up on email first.

Second, I'm working on a new site based on RST, true. That will come out next week sometime, I believe. Along with some other updates, and possibly the next 2.2 release.

Third, I've got an idea for a site that will suit us very well, but that's not going to be started until I've caught up on the rest. So, sometime in the next two to three weeks I'll begin work. Hopefully, that will be able to move fairly quickly.
