Hey folks--

Heather and I were chatting today in Google+, and I realized that the blog post I had seen before was not attached to the DOI we were discussing.

Lately before I write a blog post on a paper, I have been checking total-impact to see if others have talked it up. So I did that some time ago on this DOI: 10.1186/gb-2011-12-10-r102

When I did it before (probably last week) I did see this researchblogging post http://addiction-dirkh.blogspot.com/2011/10/decoding-dope.html, which I then linked to for my piece http://blog.openhelix.eu/?p=11320 .

But now when I look at the same DOI, I see my post—which is great—but the prior one isn’t listed. Not sure why.

I also checked it with a researchblogging post I found at Respectful Insolence and I notice the same thing—looks like a more recent post is shown, but they both reference the same DOI.  Orac’s post: http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2011/02/mike_adams_discovers_the_placebo_effect.php

It may be something with the RB search mechanism. But I thought I’d mention it.

Thanks Mary,
Research Blogging hasn't been the most reliable in the past. We will try
to look into this when we make the new Research Blogging provider as
part of our upcoming release. But medium-term (in the next 6mo) we hope
to be getting blog info from better sources altogether.

Also: I should mention that it's great to hear you're getting some use
out of TI! Let us know if you've got any ideas to make it better...we've
got a list on this Google doc:

Yeah, I thought that could be the case. Just wanted to report it.

And I will keep using it and keep thinking about it. One thing I was
wondering if there was a way to attach my SciVee video to the metrics
somehow. They carry a DOI, but I wasn't sure how to link it in any
useful way to anything. They are heavily trying to get journals to
offer authors a companion video, or posters, and thought that might be
another nice source.
