in my case (Ubuntu/Linux 12.04+FF15) it works, but I had to carefully
type the correct (absolute) path of the file.

Can you show here where is your file and what you typed in the line:
user_pref("capability.principal.codebase.p0.id", "*the location of your
tiddly file as it appears in your firefox browser address bar*");

Just a note: edit the file prefs.js only when Firefox is NOT running.
