Josiah contacted me privately to ask me about available usage statistics for TiddlyWiki. My standard answer to that question is that accurate figures are impossible to assess because of the way that TiddlyWiki works: we can’t distinguish between website visits and downloads, and there is no centralised tracking to enable us to measure actual usage.

However, there are a couple of available statistics that provide some illumination:

* Mozilla publish detailed interactive usage statistics for TiddlyFox at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tiddlyfox/statistics/; the high level summary is 130,000 all-time downloads, with nearly 20,000 average daily users
* I run Google Analytics on tiddlywiki.com. I’ve pasted the summaries for the last 30 days and 30 months below: the summary is that we get about 36K page views per month. There doesn’t seem to be a way for me to publically share the Google Analytics data, but happy to post specific screenshots if anyone is interested
* TiddlySpace usage stats are available at http://tscount.tiddlyspace.com; the graphs haven’t been updated for a couple of years, but the raw data in the tiddler “SomeInfo” looks up to date. There aren’t any visitor stats, but we can see that there are approximately 15,000 users and 20,000 spaces

I’ll drop a line to the TiddlySpot team to see if they can share any usage stats too.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

If you're trying to get some sense of diversity of editorial engagement off the tiddlyspace stats, the value that is perhaps most useful is the trend of the BagsChanged column. BagsChanged is "Count of bags in which at least one tiddler was changed today." FatBags tells you how many, at some point in their life, had some action. Editors is how many different people edited. Created and Modified count tiddlers changed that day.

At one point webalizer was running on tiddlyspace.com but I don't know what the URL was, nor if it is still accessible in any fashion.

Ciao Jeremy & all

Indeed the Mozilla TiddlyFox download stats are interesting. No least because they indicate SERIOUS INTENT on using TW. Nobody would download the special add-on unless they are serious about at least trying TW out. Interesting too is the consistency of interest over time: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tiddlyfox/statistics/?last=365

LANGUAGE of browser is equally interesting ... after North American English comes GERMAN, then JAPANESE. The level of German (& likely Austrian) browser downloads, proportional to national population size, indicates TiddlyWiki is ??? possibly used most in German speaking countries??? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tiddlyfox/statistics/usage/languages/?last=365

The SOURCE data is an indication of how people come to find the TiddlyFox add-on. They download it most by from its full page. This is likely either because (1) they want to read up more before downloading, or (2), more likely, they are arriving VIA A LINK to that page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tiddlyfox/statistics/downloads/sources/?last=365.

All this should be taken with a pinch of salt. Its only part of the bigger picture. And only about a Firefox extension. Nonetheless indicative. There is NO DOUBT a lot of people are downloading TiddlyFox and that pattern is stable over time.

Best wishes
Josiah

Here's some data from Tiddlyspot's Google Analytics.

I used to be able to get a per-site breakdown, but I can't seem to find it in the current version of GA.

Here's one more showing Tiddlyspot traffic over a longer period:

Thanks Simon, much appreciated.

For clarity, do you have Google Analytics set up such that it "sees" HTTP GETs of individual wikis? I'm curious because it doesn't look like you're inserting the GA beacon into the wiki index.html file; are you pinging Google from the server when the file is retrieved?

Many thanks,
