Everyone here knows Eric Shulman and most have reason to thank him for
his exhaustive collection of plugins, and his generously given
expertise.

When he first emailed me on 21st May 2006, out of the blue, he pretty
clearly laid out how he would go on to enrich the world of TiddlyWiki:

> Of course, while I have great respect and appreciation for all you have
> accomplished thus far, the inclination to build upon your excellent work is a
> natural one, and I have been actively working on enhancements to the features
> and functions of TiddlyWiki.

> So far, I have added over a dozen new features to TiddlyWiki that I feel
> increase the utility and usability of the overall application. In most cases,
> my approach has been to extend rather than alter your designs, so that the
> default application behaviors that you have designed are preserved, and my
> additions are either transparent or enabled by interface option settings.

And of course, it's turned out that this approach has been exactly
what was needed to turn TiddlyWiki from a cute experiment into a
practical tool. Over the last six years Eric has produced a prodigious
amount of code, and answered innumerable questions on these discussion
groups, with courtesy and patience.

Today is significant for Eric and TiddlyWiki in two ways. First, Eric
has released an alpha of a new release of TiddlyWiki 2.6.6. This marks
the point at which he has fully taken over the development and
maintenance of "classic" TiddlyWiki. Eric is planning a much more
rapid and responsive development cycle now that we've simplified a
number of aspects of the development process.

Secondly, today is Eric's 50th birthday, and I wanted to appeal to
everyone here to help give him a truly memorable and happy day.

Eric has already posted about his precarious financial position [1],
and the importance to him of community donations. So, here's my
appeal: could those of us who are able each contribute $50 to Eric, to
mark our appreciation for services to the group in the past, and to
support his efforts in his new role going forwards.

If even just a handful of people were able to do this it could make an
enormous difference to Eric. If you value TiddlyWiki, and care about
it's future, you will be making a real contribution by doing so.

Many thanks,

Jeremy

A "Great idea!".

Since (for various reasons) I don't have a paypal account and only very limited access to cards, my "cheque (for 50.00 $us) is in the mail".

Oh, a Happy Birthday, to you, Eric.
All the best to you! and thanks for having turned me into a javascript enthousiast.
I hope donations will keep on flowing...  :-D

Cheers, Tobias.

Happy birthday Eric, your site is such a treasure base of plugins, experiments, ideas and good practices. My TW plugin journey started with Taggly, and then the powerful stream of TiddlyTools poured down and improved my TW experience even more drastically. Thanks for all your contribution and always kind on the forum to respond. It's a blessing to have you in the community.

Cheers,
G.J.Robert
