4 Mile Run Striper?

I spent a few hours fishing 4MR this afternoon. While I didn't catch any fish, I did see a striper there, although it was dead. Not sure why, but the size of it surprised me. I guess I didn't think stripers of that size could be be found there - it was easily 20". It was in about knee-deep water about 200 yards down-stream from the discharge, near the northern bank. 

Just thought I'd share.

Yeah, that would be a nice one to hook into!  I know Rob has taken stripers from 4MR, and I guess you never know what will wander in from the Potomac!

I've had plenty of fish die in my aquariums over my lifetime and the guts are always the first part to get eaten by other fish.

Right - and otherwise, the fish looked very recently deceased. the tail was intact, the eyes were there, etc. Save for the evisceration, it looked like it could have swum away!

Think it was a fluke or are stripers of that size fairly common in 4MR?

While I haven't seen one of that size, I've had 10-12" stripers attack hooked bluegills between the power poles upstream of the discharge in 4MR. Haven't caught a striper out of 4MR myself yet though.

I was getting into stripers that size in 4MR back in early-mid June.  I was consistently finding them by the water discharge on incoming tides for a solid couple of weeks. The biggest one I landed was about the size of the fish pictured, 18' - 20'. A blast on the 5wt to say the least.  Then the summer heat came and the stripers went away. I've been hoping to find them again this fall - braving cool nights, shady tides,  angry beavers, and a Presidential campaign to name a few of the obstacles - but I'm in a serious slump (been shut out at Tidal Basin, Gravelly, Duck Pond and 4MR thus far this week) and haven't even hooked into a striper in a few weeks (a 10' schoolie caught in Rock Creek). I feel like A-Rod.
