Hey everyone,

A buddy and I are looking to get away for a weekend of fishing May 11 - 13 (both experienced fisherman but new to fly fishing).  We're hoping to do a guided trip one day and fish on our own the rest of the weekend.  We're willing to fish for anything, but would prefer something a bit different than what we fish every weekend (i.e. around Fletcher's).  We would prefer to camp out all weekend and to stay within a reasonable drive of the metro area (say 4 to 5 hours).  Any tips on locations and guide recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Todd

Western MD is a good bet if you like trout fishing. You have the N.
Branch of the Potomac, the Savage, the Youghiogheny and the Casselman
all in relative proximity. Savage River Outfitters offers a fly shop and
guided trips. They also have several rental houses on the Savage. There
is also ample camping in the area (on the Savage, N. Branch of the
Potomac above and below Jennings Randolph Lake, all around Deep Creek
Lake, etc.). There is also some limited night life options around Deep
Creek Lake if you are so inclined.

Todd,  I would agree with Brad's suggestion.  I have camped directly across from the savage river,1 day fishing there, then second day take a quick drive over to the north branch of the potomac at Barnum,  you will need a Md. license.   Another guide for this area is William H.  at http://www.easterntrophies.com/      hope this helps.  Terry

I would head to Poe Paddy State Park, Pa.(4 hours) Penns Creek, Camp
on one of the best rivers in the east. I was there last week and it
was fantastic. Great dry action. Water was low but these rains are
going to improve conditions even better. Used a great guide, John
Stoyanoff, jst...@yahoo.com Great teacher. I am looking at what I
can do to get back there and camp on that river before the kids get
out of school.

Enjoy,
Frank

Thanks for the great pointers everyone.  We're all booked for a weekend of camping at Swallow Falls State Park and one day guided trip through WISP Resort.  I'll hopefully have some great pictures to share in a few weeks!
