Went to Shenandoah River (Karo Landing) last week for dipping.

We were after the smallies, but were greeted by rainbows and fallfish.

Nice. Putting that place on the "to do" list. I know that there are some huge smallies a few miles south of that place but you might need a boat.

I just recently found this place, and heard from a coworker that there are large rainbows in the cold water inlet there.  Were you swinging streamers in the main river, or fishing the inlet creek?  Will the rainbow hit clousers or crayfish patterns?  I saw many crayfish in the cold water creek.

Check out this SMB pic.  I caught him on the main branch of the Shenandoah last week with a Clouser/Deceiver pattern.

For rainbows id say ur better off tossing big ass streamers.  But y not try crayfish.  If its their natural source of food, I just think ull catch more smallies then trout with crayfish and baitfish patterns.

I gave Maro Landing a shot yesturday and nearly got skunked. Horrible place for wading IMO. I hit a couple of the breakers right behind the head water where Smallies normally stack up but got nothing. Even the spin fishers throwing out crayfish came up skunked. Anyway, the next day (today) I hit my old haunt on the rapidan and robinson rivers and pumped out 79 fish in about 6.5 hours of fishing several points of both waterways. The prize fish for today was a 17 inch brown trout caught just north of criglersville. Yea I know, when I saw that thing jump the first time I was astounded that it was even there, not that I was going to complain about it :). Other than that the fish ranged from Fallfish to Smallies, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, and Rock Bass. Every fish caught and safely released. The flies used were in order - black wooly bugger (the trout destroyed one of em), black/white muddler minner, and a white fluffy muddler minnow. I caught all the Fallfish on the black muddler. They just loved that thing.
