Hello,

I'm curious if there are any upcoming events or activities in conjunction with project healing waters? I'm always so impressed by the mission and work that organization does and I'm looking for more ways to get involved. Their mission embodies my philosophy around fishing as a spiritual and soul nurturing experience that can literally heal people. I saw on the project healing waters page that Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders is listed in the following places.

Ft. Belvoir, VA
Ft. Belvoir WTU
Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders

Quantico, VA
Quantico Marine Corps Base
Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders

A quick search of the blog listed some events from last year around this time so I wanted to see if anything was being planned.

Thanks,

Dave Marcus

Rob Snowhite is always in close contact with PHW, so perhaps he can answer about upcoming events?  To clarify, the reason we (TPFR) are listed with the Ft. Belvoir and the Quantico programs is because TPFR sponsors both and in doing so is able to provide umbrella insurance to each program.

A major benefit of TPFR being a "Charter Club" of the Federation of Fly Fishers is that it enables us to get in on some excellent liability insurance as a club and so covers our events, such as when we teach casting on the River, or feed people Snakeheads!  PHW programs on the other hand, have a much harder time acquiring good, affordable liability insurance due to the nature of their activities - bringing wounded vets out on the water, in boats, traveling to destinations, etc.  Fortunately, some forward thinking individuals have found a way to connect PHW programs with TU and FFF clubs in a way that allows them to share in our benefits.

Therefore, Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders proudly sponsors both the Ft. Belvoir and Quantico programs, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to do so.  I highly encourage any and all TPFRers to volunteer with Project Healing Waters and to help/support their cause at any opportunity.

P.S.  Attached is a picture from the day we signed on as sponsors to both programs at the PHW 2-fly Tournament.  Good times, great people, and good memories!

You just missed a trip to Harman's cottages in West Virginia last weekend.

Quantico meets twice a month for fly tying: 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month.

I don't know of any trips in the immediate future.  There will be another Harman's trip in the spring, and we try to do one trip somewhere per month, although it's hard to do in the December/January months.

If you want, I can get you in touch with the coordinators.

If you want to volunteer at Bethesda Walter Reed (every Wed at noon for casting), please contact via nationa...@projecthealingwaters.org
You will need a background check, TB test, some other medical tests (to ensure you don't have anything that can be passed onto a wounded soldier with a compromised immune system) and need to get a volunteer badge to access the base. Its a lengthy process but rewarding. In addition, you can request to help out at the local fishing events. You'll want to contact either David, Walter, or George.
