Is the spawning season over with yet in the SNP?  There has been a lot of discussion about not going wading during the spawn - but are we to the point where it is okay to go?

I would leave them alone through February, but that is just me.

The Park Service used to prohibit fishing through the spawn, but I don't know the dates they used.

Maybe someone here remembers.

You can fish them, but we usually remind anglers to stay out of the water.  Please remember that brook trout alevin live in redds throughout the winter and will emerge in the spring.  Staying out of the water and watching where you step if you must get wet are just as important as safe fish handling techniques.
