Kids Flyfishing with Tenkara rods

The forecast had too much wind in it for me to drive down to Fletchers for shad.  Instead, I took my son and daughter to Lake Newport to do some flycasting.  We got the omnipresent Bluegill, but my son saw a Large Mouth Bass hanging in the shallows and after repeated casts, he got a perfect top lip hook up and got the fish to shore.  Not the biggest bass in the lake, but watching your kids walk quietly up to the water, look for their target, cast their fly to the sweet spot and get the fish to take is even better than doing all those things yourself!

Fantastic. Newport is a gem. You just have to watch out for the Bunny Man.
