Similar to the question on the best rod for the SNP, I was wondering what recommendations people would make for trout on the the larger streams in the area. From the reserch I have done it seems an 8'6" is a good choice because it can be used in so many different situations.

There are many good combinations.  I've purchased several 10' ECHO rods over teh last few years, and really like them.  The extra length helps a little with my casting stroke, and mending a couple of nymphs is improved considerably.  I also bought a 10'6' switch rod that has been so much fun casting overhand that I haven't learned to spey cast it very well yet.

I have a Redington pursuit 9 foot 6w that i used to fish all over Colorado the past 2 years before i move here. It worked great for me on the bigger places. I have handled some big trout on it with no problem. I would recomend a 5 or a 6.

Peter,
Sometime you should bring  the switch to club casting and we can work on your Spey casts.
