Hello all.  I've returned to Arlington after a year working in Phoenix.  In between work at the moment so I have time to try my hand at fly fishing again.  Weather tea leave reader says modest winds and sunny this Sunday.  With a 8AM high tide, anyone going down to 4MR?  I'll probably be out to try to see where my casting is at.  Anyone heading out? Promise not to crowd your spot.  Just looking to run into some new folks, learn a thing or two and enjoy the morning.  I was thinking of trying under the bridge by Rt1.  Any suggestions?  I've got waders, but don't know if folks wade 4MR.  Any input is appreciated.  Depending on how the job hunt goes, I might have weekday time if someone needs a partner or to split gas money for a day trip.

take care - John M.

I'll be down there tonight just after high tide. Is fishing around the Rt 1 bridge a pretty good bet? I haven't ever been to 4MR.

I may be able to get there Sunday in the afternoon. I would like to fish the outgoing tide, closer to low tide, but am not sure I can get the time off from family duty. You can wade 4MR, mostly from the other side of the Toyota dealership.

I stopped by 4MR this afternoon around 3pm.  Only two spinfishers by the bridge and they weren't getting any hits.  I did not see any indications that any of the fish were moving around.  You may want to stick to the outgoing tide in the morning.  Good luck!

My brother and I fished four mile yesterday and Friday and crushed the bass both days. he even got a nice channel cat on a chartreuse/white clouser. I think I'll put up some pics when I get off work. If I remember correctly the tides for Sunday should be perfect between noon and 2ish. Id say your best chances would be along the rocky shoreline in front of the Toyota dealership and along the bases of the power poles

Eric, did you get down there last night?  I fished the outgoing tide downcurrent from the outflow from 8:30pm to 10:30pm, didn't see anyone else around. There was a ton of surface activity, some big fish jumping.  I only brought a sinking line, which was a mistake, as I'm sure poppers would have been more successful than the half-and-half I was fishing off the bottom.

I did manage to land my first carp though, also the biggest fish I've ever caught on a fly rod by probably 25 pounds.  Was one hell of a surprise.  I brought my new guide net, which I though was overkill but I just wanted to break it in, and this fish only fit about halfway in it.  Didn't measure, but based on the scale of my 9-wt here, I'm guessing it was about 36 inches.  Ran like hell.

Awesome fish! Been trying to get one of those on a fly with no luck. Did he eat the half and half or something else?

Yup, a 2/0 black and red half-and-half.  Didn't get any interest from anything else though.

I believe it!  We used to spin fish for carp all the time with "secret" doughball recipes.  Once we were fishing for catfish on live bluegills and mummichogs (collected by me from Hunting Creek) and Beth caught this heavy chunker on a live bluegill!

If we could just get one on a fly we'd be stoked!

Oh, and "BFC" means "Big darned carp".

Unfortunately, I had some work come up during the day on Sunday and I had to take care of, so my lady-friend plans got bumped to the evening and she is rarely keen on hanging out by the river in the cold. I will probably be fishing out at the tidal basin tonight if I can slide out of the office at a reasonable hour.

Awesome carp, though!

2/11/13 I fished about 11:30am-right across from the Toyota dealership, expecting to have warm water outflow down by the bridge.  The water was dirty and high and I got shutout on a chartreuse wiggly worm attractor and a clouser dropper then deer hair dropper.  Water was cold so I guess I was too early from the dropping high of about 9am.

Suggestions welcome on a better timing off the high.
