WinAmp was my music player of choice for years. I had just about forgotten it; I can't really remember why I stopped using it.

I loved that program back in the day.  It was especially handy for ripping audio from video clips.  Ahhh... the "wilderness years" of the interwebs.  I remember them well.

I started using it because it was simple, didn't crash, and did a much better job organizing what I thought at the time was a huge collection of MP3s. The skins and Shoutcast radio were a big plus. I think WinAmp was my first foray into shareware, too.

Winamp was the third program I started every day when I fired up the old PC in college.  It went Netscape (later IE), then SimpleMU for my MUSHes, then Winamp.  Great program, very easy to use, very fast, and lots of fun with the skins.

Furthermore, on the rare occassion when I play music on my current home PC, it's on Winamp.  It still kicks the llama's ass.
