I want to draw attention to and perhaps help coordinate contributions for Computing in Science and Engineering's coming November issue. You can find links to PDFs for the 2012 and 2013 editorial calendars here:
http://www.computer.org/portal/web/computingnow/writeforus. I first came across CISE at the March Meeting of the American Physical Society this last March in Boston. I got a subscription and I have since seen it on the desks of many professors. I have seen articles about languages including FORTRAN, Python, and Java. I think I may also have seen Matlab and C or C++, though I do not recall at this point.
The November issue is about Modern Programming Languages. I just came across this and have not even contacted the editors to determine their deadlines, but if we have not missed the deadline, would anybody else like to join me in writing an article (or two, or three!) for the issue? I feel that Joel's work with simulations (which he presented at YAPC) is a great candidate for science-specific stuff; an overview of BioPerl and/or PDL would be another good article to have, if the editors think that such a broad overview sort of article is appropriate.
Thoughts?
