Does anybody have the latest on when the Edison Supercharger station is going to open?

Thanks,

I spoke to Andrea yesterday (before he left for Italy), and he said he stopped by there that morning.  He said he spoke with the Electrical Foreman as well as Brad from Tesla.

They completed the testing of the chargers (using a generator) and passed the town inspections.

He said that PSE&G was scheduled to install the electric meter NEXT Tuesday (maybe/hoping they would come earlier).  I believe that will do it, and they will be open.

Installing old chargers? sound baffling to me.  They are probably slowly ramping up the current draw to test the grid.  There is probably a reason they wait to officially announce it...

100 amp is about right for a 60 at about 75% full. Someone needs to go there and charge with only 10%or 20% left, so we can see how high the output is .

Just came back from the Paramus store and they said to be patient.  They said that everyone is jumping the gun, that it is not officially open yet and that the power will be increased shortly.  Don't shoot the messenger - just relaying what they told me.

I spoke to the Edison Fire Official when I was there last Thursday (yes, I know this is old news, but I have not had much free time lately). We spoke about the final permit, Knox Box, and going live. Please recall, at that time, this site was not yet open, and the yellow tape was still tied to each charger, holding each individual charging cable to its dedicated holster, and orange cones were blocking the entry into the lot.
He told me that he thought the site would open on Friday or Monday, at the latest. Now, of course, we know it is open (officially, or not, it is working).

As far as the rate of charge that some of us are getting, it could be tied to the fact, that he said a Knox box MUST be provided. Everyone, including Tesla, has to follow the Life Safety codes. And, until one is installed, they could be throttling down the power, as a safety measure.

For those of you who are not aware of what a Knox Box is- it is simply a small wall mounted box (built similarly to a safe), that holds the keys to a building, facility, or, in this case, to the locked "environmentally pleasing" enclosure, surrounding the chargers. (In homes or businesses with security systems, there are provisions to electronically connect it to them, making the keys extra secure).
The township Fire Department are the only ones who have a key to the Knox Box (aptly named after the ONLY company in the US which manufactures them), so if there was an incident, they could simply use their key to open the Knox Box, to retrieve the site's keys to open the door. BTY, the keys to the Knox Box are ordered special for each township, so their key will fit all of the Knox Boxes under their Jurisdiction only.
Otherwise, they would have to use their "Universal Key" (AKA an Axe), which would likely result in major damage, and a possible long wait before the site would, once again, return to an operational status.

Sorry to be so long winded, but, as an expert in my field, I thought someone would like to know some details.

Thanks for the information man.  Either way I'm just happy to be able to make it to the Shore now!  I just needed enough to be able to make it back to that charger with my S60.  A quick snack at the Fox and Hound bar and we were good to go.

Cheers from the beach,
Jared

I don't think the Edison site is throttled at all.

Plugging in with 130 miles left is right at 50% mark for 85kwh battery. The amperage is about right. The supercharger would only charge at max amperage only when your battery is about 10% left or  empty.
Also, the max supercharger output/charging is NOT sustained, you will only see the max charging for about a few mins then it would start to slow down..

Here is my S60 at 60 miles.. Definitely less than what we charged at (210) in Connecticut and Rhode Island

Just gave it a try yesterday and got just about the expected kW (114) with 80 miles left,
Once I got to 150 I was down to 68 kW which does not sound right.
I was on 3A next to the bank of inverters and a white one was plugged on 2B on the other side and probably not charging anymore anyway.

Well, I am certainly no expert on charging, but after using the Edison SC at least 5 different times since they opened, I found an interesting issue.
When you enter, if you go to the left bank, those chargers are all much slower than if go to the ones on the right bank.
I am not sure why. But that is what I found. And I am charging there right now.
I am so glad this SC has opened. I use it often, and have no complaints.

Was there today with my S85 and it topped out at 115kW as expected. Sufficient for my needs. Got up to 130 which was just right to get into NYC and make it back to Hamilton to top up before home...
