Just released a new beta!

As always, you can sign up for the beta here.
Also, remember to also sign up for the App Factory beta here if you use that.

Most important changes for this version:
  • Tasker and App Factory now target API 26 (Android Oreo). This doesn't mean that the apps will stop working on older devices. Just that they are now more inline with the latest Android best-practices.
  • Added launcher adaptive icon
  • Added Notification Channels for all created notifications (user and system). Disable the ones you don't want to see in Android Settings.
  • For user notifications, notification channels will be generated for each different customization (LED, Sound, Vibrate)
More details here.

Let me know of any issues, thanks!

Looking good. But the text on the notification to turn off notifications is way to long, run off the screen. "Long Press on the notification and...."

Just installed 5.6.1b.  Tasker keeps crashing and restarting.  I was able to turn off all profiles but still get the same issue.  Running on Galaxy S8, OS 8.0.0

Can I get a link to the previous version so that I can get tasker running  again?

OK, I think I tracked down the problem causing profile.  It's the "Network Location" profile by Sean Williams.  I'll touch base on that discussion as well.

Problem-1

%test=%test+0.25
flash %test >> ,25

Problem-2

The action "Set Widget Icon" it does not work, but "Set Widget Label" works fine.

Problem-3

The Tasker icon does not look very good. It appears with the orange background and the contrast is really bad with the gray icon.

Thanks for your excellent work ;-)

I have a device boot event profile that no longer triggers at boot ever since I installed this update. I can manually run the task fine. Looking at the run log the profile doesn't trigger at all at boot. My other profiles trigger and I also have a device off event profile that works fine.

In case of doubt you should make it white.

I've just looked through my phone: Pretty much every symbol with a colored background has a white or at least predominantly white symbol (like Twitter or G+), but the Tasker symbol has no white.

In my case I'm getting a lot of warnings with the following message: UITHeme: error: getThemedIconID: attr 2130772056 / iconTaskerHome

Also, profiles that receive an AutoRemote message are no longer behaving as expected (The profile stays active and should behave as an event). I'll have to downgrade, I need this functionality working.

Perfect. In the last beta (5.6.1b.bf) it works correctly. You're the best. ;-.)

I have a widget to a task on my desktop and from another task I change the icon and the label of that widget with the corresponding actions. The label changes without problem, but the icon only changes if I select contact or local media. It seems a proble with Tasker's internal files.

Transparent, black or white. And it would be great to be able to select it in the preferences. :-D

With the newest version of tasker 5.6.1b bf I run into trouble with autonotification 3.9.2. If I want to react on a notification action created by autonotification (clicked on it or button pressed) the autonotification event behavior was fired, but stays in green color. The next event after this from the same notification class will not be fired, till autonotification event behavior profile keeps green. In the settings the dialog is shown:

Warning
Please don't use this. If you want an event use the Condtion->Event context. This is only here because real Tasker events didn't exist before.

But in tasker are not the same events. Only a single events like "notification removed". And the most important point: I have to get access to the notification context given with Notificationaction=:=some stuff
That isn't available. Please show me how the react correctly.

Any profiles triggered by events from third-party plugins have stopped working for me - the info on the Event Edit page is getting deleted every time I apply new settings / exit Tasker. As a result these events never fire their corresponding actions.

I don't understand why Tasker is repeatedly creating notifications that say "Long click to disable.  You don't need these"  It shows up over and over and over and over on my lock screen when the phone is off.

If you don't like the "run in foreground" notification just disable it. Long-press the notification and click Disable or go to the notification settings for Tasker and disable the Monitor notification.

This problem was resolved with 5.6.1b.bf1 and Kids are now being created again.

In addition it should be noted that …
The somewhat unseemly Tasker icon is now back to the way it was in the past.
  •  The Tsk that I always exported into a Kid as my first test of every new release is still not working (since 4.9).
  •  After a reload it creates Kids in the normal manner.  After the first is created each subsequent Kid seems to hang at the very end for no apparent reason.  Sometimes doing a Previous Screen the Previous Tasks then select Tasker will get it going again.  Clearing the Cache on App Factory and Tasker seems to solve the problem.

I did only change the color. I had to change the folder the icon was in because of an issue with App Factory and apparently that broke the icon's "adaptiveness".

After the first is created each subsequent Kid seems to hang at the very end for no apparent reason.

Can you explain what you mean by "hang at the very end"? End of what exactly?

Oh I see. That's an issue with the app installer, not Tasker, sorry!

You have to use . instead of , :)

Not João. Tasker has always used the point as a decimal separator. The math library of Tasker requires the point, but the result of mathematical operations is returned with a comma. That generates this result...

%test = 0.25 (with Do Maths)
Flash %test ... 0,25 (has comma instead of a point)

And this didn't happen until now.

I think I've found the cause of the problem. If Tasker is set to English, the math functions return the decimal point. But if set to Spanish (my language) return a comma as a decimal separator. Have you made any changes related to that?

Yeah, now it always uses dots independently of the locale :)

Yes.  Sorry for the confusion … the pictures were showing the notification with the "slide out" not out and the with the "slide out" out.

It is a permanent notification that cannot be deleted.  Through experimentation I found that I can set the time in its
"slide out" options to a maximum of two hours an it will he hidden for that amount of time.

I have tried searching for it on the Internet and have not found anything about it,  Is it perhaps "feature" that was turned on to help debug the Beta?

That notification is an Android system notification that usually appears when an app is running in the background. But in this version Tasker never runs in the background, so that must be either a Tasker or system bug. Do you see a Tasker notification when those notifications are present?

I played around with it for a while …
  • If Monitoring is on and Show Icon is off then it displays the notification in question.
  • If Monitoring is on and Show icon is on then it shows the Tasker icon and it reports the number of active profiles instead.
  • If Monitoring is off it shows the notification in question.

The Looper error is fixed with the latest version in this thread. However, I'm getting the message to enable Notification Access, which is already enabled. This has been happening for the last several releases, I just never reported it. The only way I can get rid of it is to disable Notification Access, restart the phone, then enable it. I'm running Android 8.0.0.

Posted a new update. Besides multiple fixes related to targeting Oreo, I've now added a new Report Issue To Developer option which will make it much easier for users to report an issue to me.

Hi joao,

i think he means that the Event "Variable Set" on %CLIP doesn't trigger anything whenever the clipboard changes.

I have the same problem and it started with the last beta (tried the last stable release and it works like a charm)

I tried both the solutions posted in the above threads, but none of them is definitive. Whenever i reboot the device the %CLIP monitoring stops working for whatever reason.

Really appreciate your time here

The same thing is happening on my device. If I reboot Tasker stops monitoring the %CLIP variable. Both the Variable Set and Variable Value contexts are affected.

I have been able to get it working again by toggling the accessibility service permission and then disabling/enabling Tasker.

I've also disabled/renabled the profile first so that maybe you can find more clues. It seems to me that it has something to do directly with the service that monitors the changes in the clipboard.

1- Disabled the profile Text Copied (the one i use to trigger a task whenever %CLIP is set)
2- Enabled the profile Text Copied
3- Opened Telegram and typed "TEST" in a random chat
4- Selected the whole text and copied to clipboard
5- Typed "TEST2"
6- Selected the whole text and cutted to clipboard

If that could help, you can find attached two screenshot of how i configured the Profile/Task.
