Where did it go? I can't find Tasker in the play store anymore. I've got the most updated version of the play store and I'm in the US.

Google have removed it, as far as I can see mistakenly since they are complaining
about something being in the manifest which is simply not there.

In a couple of days, after I've got a few thousand complaint emails, they may have
gotten round to reading the appeal.

What about the people who bought the app?

Thank you for all your efforts, Pent!

Are you trying to explain to them that Tasker is useless without this permission? Although this permission is only in the beta version, It should arrive to the final versioni sooner or later. They must underrstand...., I´m glad that I bought Tasker direct to you and not through playstore....

Thanks again

This sucks.. getting a new phone tomorrow and of course, Google decide to remove one of the apps I depend on for a quite a bit.

So, backed up my Tasker data and used adb to backup the apk.  Hopefully I can get it back tomorrow.

I believe it does a license check. Which if you bought it. It should work. Mine did

I am a licensed Tasker user.

I am setting up a brand new phone and the last thing needed is the missing Tasker.
  • Is there a licensed copy of Tasker that I can install while this Play Store fiasco works itself out?
  • Will running the trial version recognize me as a licensed user and install EXACTLY the same code I would have gotten from Play Store?
My objective is to not install a copy of Tasker that will result in a new problem (always at the most importune time) sometime down the road.

The versions ending in m.apk are the Play Store (Market) versions.

Thank you for the help.

There is a problem.  It is apparently the International version and not the US version that is in Play Store.  As an example ... there is an added Action Category of Crypt that clearly states it is not in the Play Store version.

That being the case ... are there other differenced?

Is there a place to get the US version that was provided to licensed users from Play Store?

What? It is incredible! Sorry Pent. Is there a way to help you from our forum? Perhaps a way to protest to Google? Somebody have any idea?

I second that idea. People on reddit suggested to request a callback via the Play Store app and let Google explain what happened.
If they get enough requests for callbacks, maybe it triggers some internal process to speed up Pent's appeal.

[rant]

Recently, Google removed its "Don't be evil" admonishment from its official Ethics Policy document. They haven't lived up to that for a while, IMHO, but this nonsense about Doze permissions is underscoring that fact. At best, they are paternalistically trying to protect us from ourselves.

I'm very glad that we can still obtain Tasker from outside of the Play Store.

The less Google, the better.

Wow.  This is getting some attention now.  This exposure may bring in more installs once the issue is resolved.

I checked the play store using a PC's web browser and Tasker is not showing up right now. So glad I have Titanium Backup of the app and data.  I shall never be without Tasker. NEVER!

Should be back everywhere now.

Google has said it was a mistake, no apology of course.

I will resist having a rant about it.

The good thing is that it is back up, though I have a question.
When it was removed, if it was restored from a backup would the app be able to verified purchased status?

That is really great news.

One thing that I suggest ...

Tasker is distributed through ...

Play Store

http://tasker.dinglisch.net/releases/

http://tasker.dinglisch.net/

... and there are three versions ...

Trial

Paid International

Paid US (used on Play Store)

These three versions are known and apparently the paid versions can verify that you are a paid user.

Only two of the versions are available outside Play Store and for users in the US this means that if anything happens like Monday we are left dangling.

How about changing the index at  ...
... to provide links to all three versions?  I don't mean go back and change them all.  Change the current release and include the links in all future releases.

This should reduce the confusion and communications when someone makes an arbitrary change at Play Store.

There are only 2 versions, from website and Play Store.

The website version has some extra functions which are possible because
it's not distributed via US servers.

The 'm' versions in the releases/ directory are old Play Store versions.

It is good seeing your words.

Thank you for pointing out the "m" being the US (er Play Store) version.  In the index ...

There is a Tasker.4.6u3m.apk
There is no Tasker.4.7u3m.apk (not for any 4.7 version)
There is a Tasker.4.8b2m.apk

The problem I am trying to address ... setup Tasker on a new device for a new user during a Play Store fiasco and have them know what when the fiasco is over they can use the updates from Play Store on what I installed.

In 5 years the app has been unavailable on Play Store for a total of 1 day,
so I don't think it's necessary to have an alternative outlet for the current
Play Store version.

Well ... you posted it for 4.6 and not 4.7.

I don't think the frequency of the problem is the issue.  I think the randomness of the problem is the issue.

You have the product that saved their operation in the past and it was arbitrarily removed.  It could be arbitrarily removed later today by some other Google whimsy.

If you want ... I am totally willing to host it on one of my servers located in Peterborough, NH, US.  It would be http://tlanet.net/tasker/default.aspx accessed by tlanet.net/tasker.  You could just tell me where the two versions are and I would add them to that page when you release them.

I was probably the cause of this problem ... last week the $720 phone rrived with a hardware problem out of the box.  The replacement arrived Monday.  EVERYTHING was installed on it except Tasker that was not automatically downloaded.  Like I said ... probably my fault.

Yes, I prefer people to download the current version from Play Store. Thanks for
the storage offer, but that's not a problem.

Hello, what extra function does the website one have? that is the version without the "m" right? Are the extra functions listed anywhere? Is the website version meant to be used by tasker devs or?

cheers

FYI, the Play Store has now changed their Doze Whitelist acceptable use-cases to allow automation apps to declare the whitelist permission.

Thanks for mentioning.

Think I'll leave it as is for a while, who knows whether their Play Store
staff are on the same page.
