Anyone interested in starting a DC Group for Vegas? A friend has bankrolled Toxic BBQ the past 2 years, and sealing that with a meetup would make organization easier.

I'm going to try to come to lockpicking and podcast nights to drum up interest. Let me know if you want to join forces.

DC is for DefCON.  It's a group of people that have the same interesting in DefCON type related activities.

Some on thought of starting one back in 2012, but didn't seem to get very far:

(if we find out who we can recommend they upgrade to latest wordpress and add a TLS cert for secure logins ;)

cheers,

PS - DaveL - I had the same question, thanks for asking ;)

yea, there use to be a DC702 group quite some time ago, like back when defcon was out of the Alexis park. I went to a couple meetings with friend of mine, but they didn't really seem to be well organized, and was mostly teenagers, so we kind of felt out of place (being in our late 20s at the time) and gave up on it. I think it's tried to come back a few times since, but never got anywhere. kind of funny that the area code where defcon takes place can't keep a defcon group together.

i think hackajar tried to resurrect it last, but then they are/were
vegas 2.0. there is also a dc702 user on dc forums who i think was
running that site.

Here my purpose and plan:

A friend and I organized Toxic BBQ for two years now, and it would be nice to keep it growing without raising the level of effort. This year, cedarboy brought Ham Radio demos, and the brew share took over a table. Next year, we're thinking about kickstarting a badge, resurrecting Titanium Chef and bringing in other groups to stage at the barbecue. Doing either needs coordination. Thus a DC Group.

Getting off the ground is simple these days: start a discord for planning and host a meeting regularly: have a lightning talk, plan the BBQ, BS about hacking. It doesn't even have to be in person yet.

If someone wants to take the lead, let me know. Otherwise, watch this space.

Did anything happen with this? I've just moved to NV and would be happy to take point here. I do a lot of hardware building and hacking, tech art, wifi, and some sdr... but I'm always down to nerd out on tech. Anyone still interested? If so we can do a meet up end of July. I'll start the registration process through defcon website. Please respond to this to make sure there is interest before I start doing work... thanks guys. Let's blow some caps

Sounds good. Let me know when and where.

Toxic BBQ is scheduled and planning is going well. We have the Ham Radio group from last year returning. They are looking for Ham VEs to proctor exams AT the BBQ, so that's cool. We need at least 3.

There is an infosec group at Innevation Center that meets the first Thursday. That might be a good place to recruit or join forces.

Lemme know if you are having trouble getting in touch with that meetup. I work with one of the organizers, and can point him to you.

Collin just confirmed they got DC Group approval. With our powers combined...

Yep, I've got a convo going with him. Exciting stuff. I'd love to find some folks interested in badgecraft, I've got one I built but I'm tempted to build another between now and then.

Which badge? I'm involved on the Darknet badge side.
