Received my kit, still trying to figure out how to put the kit together (Freewave Radio and the Piksi Multi). From what I can tell, the Freewave Radio needs a 12V supply and the Piksi Multi needs a 5V. So, presumably I will need two different power supplies. Am I right.

Also, if anyone has managed to put the kit together, please share a photo of the assembled system (there is none on the SwiftNav site) so the rest of us have an example to follow. Thanks,

Kuantsai,

Glad to hear you've received your kit! We are churning out documentation as I type - you can find the current version of the Piksi Multi Getting Started Guide here:

You may also find the article on Powering Piksi Multi helpful:

The Freewave Radio does indeed need 12V. The Evaluation Board (the large blue board, which hosts the module itself) can run between 8 and 42 V. The kit itself ships with a 12V wall adapter, and a Y-cable for the barrel jacks. Connect the male ends of the Y-cable to the evaluation board and radio, and connect the included 12V adapter to the female connector of the Y-cable.

That should get your kit powered, if you have any additional questions - please open a support ticket here:

(Select "Yes" for "Does your inquiry relate to an existing order?" and "Technical Support" for "My inquiry is about")

Thanks,
-Josh

Hello Kuantsai and All,

We've added some basic setup photos to the support site:

Hope it helps in your first steps with the new kit.

Best regards,
Stefan

Hi,

I am similarly on the first assembly - the new photos help as I don't know my MMCX from my SMA from my TNC (but worked it out).  A photographic labelled kit-list would help.
Also the "Status Indicator" at the bottom of page 5 in the getting started guide varying between grey and grey-ish... please change to something far more obvious, a red X or green tick?

My actual question is similarly re radio power.  The Free Wave radio kit did not come with international adapters (the Swift boxes did - thank you!) so I have a 2.1mm jack but a US plug.
I can readily find an adapter, but with such similar power supplies I need to check if they are interchangeable.  The amps out on the adapters are different 1.5a  0.8a and my school physics is so old I can't tell if that will be a problem.
TL;DR - can I interchangeably use the Freewave and Piksi power supplies or do I need to label them carefully and not get them mixed up?

 Many thanks -

Hi,

Thank you for your comments. We'll consider them for improving our products and documentation.

You can use AC adapter from the Piksi Multi kit with international adapters to power the FreeWave radio. That adapter is capable to power both Piksi Multi and radio simultaneously but you can also power them individually.

The AC adapter from the FreeWave radio kit is intended for the radio only so don't use it with Piksi.

Best regards,
Stefan
