On my website I have some flash on each page (simple flash banners)
but people with ipods iPads and Mackintosh can not see it.
I'm trying to research on that to find a solution (to make flash files
visible on Apple browsers too) but it is very hard.
I have a basic knowledge of HTML thats all and all I found so far is
SWFObject option. My question is: will this be the best and the
easiest answer to my question?
Or may be there is some kind of program that can convert SWF file to
soothing else to be view-able far absolutely ALL browsers including
APPLE.
I would appreciate detailed help with this.
Thank you so much!!!

Alex.

Flash (swf) content is not visible on iOS devices (and most likely never will)

I suggest you use SWFObject to insert your swf files to your page and serve up a gif/ static image version of your banner to iOS / Non Flash devices (the mechanism of which to display is taken care of for you with alternative content using SWFObject). Have a rad through the documentation / have a look at  some of the examples.

Best,
Aran

Well, that's the big question isn't it?

Since mobile safari on iOS supports HTML5/CSS3 you could use CSS3 animations - but good luck finding a tool that will create these as easily as flash! There's a few that will convert flash content e.g. swiffy, wallaby for you and I believe Adobe are building a tool to do this (Edge??) but that's still in Beta

However, none of this has anything to do with SWFObject so you probably need to take your question elsewhere, sorry.

By the way, flash should run perfectly well on Mac OS X if the user has flash player installed. Although I think I've just found a serious problem with the latest release of flash player in that it seems to have broken on a mac!!

@Alex

If you look at the standard mobile banner ad formats (like Admob etc), they are just static images or animated gifs.

iAd and the other "rich" media ad formats are HTML5 etc, but as moloko says, you will need to spend a lot of time building / porting your content across.

Personally I'd:

1) Export out a gif/png image sequence from my FLA
2) Take that into Fireworks etc and make a optimized animated gif...
3) Insert it/the swf onto my page(s) using SWFObject
4)....
5) Profit!

it makes sense what you offer... I'm trying to figure out how swfobject works and is it possible to just download a plug in for Dreamweawer with swfobject???
Another question- in the future will I be able to make animations on HTML-5? is it easy? what soft I need for this? and will it guarantee that it will work on ALL browsers including iOS??
Thanks a million for your help again Aran!!!
regards
Alex

Well, I suggest you read the docs and look at the examples as I suggested earlier.

DW (CS4+) uses swfobject when you do a insert > media > swf command. Adobe's code which they generate is a little more complex than need be, but it is using the SWFObject library, so the same docs on our site apply.

I seriously suggest you have a thorough read of the docs though, so you understand what DW has inserted into your page, and how to modify as needed.

@future/HTML5 - Well, nothing is guaranteed in the world of software. Moloko already gave you links to toolsets which do what you want (one creates animations with object etc from scratch (Adobe Edge) while the other converts your swf/FLA to HTML5 (Adobe Wallaby / swiffy )).

Good luck with your project...

Alex.

I am not sure what you mean by "google video embed". Are you talking about a FLV based video player on your page? That is not a "simple banner" as you first stated.

You will need to write the appropriate HTML5 <video> tag etc to the page in your alt content if the user does not have Flash in order to display the video. How to display video in HTML 5 is out of the scope of this list...

Well, if it is a Google video, you better migrate it quick as that service is being shut down very quickly.

As I said in the last message, you will need to know the actual source .mp4 etc in order to play to iOS devices through HTML5 etc. Again, this is out of the scope of this list.

Any way I do have a small video that I need to display on my page I have it in MP4 but I can make any format AND I remember week ago or so I saw somewhere online how to embed video with swfObject  - because HTML-5 as I read now may not work ALL browsers including iOS... here is some info: Depending on who you ask, HTML 5 is either the next important step toward creating a more semantic web or a disaster that’s going to trap the web in yet another set of incomplete tags and markup soup.
SO... Aran can I embed video from youtube ?  What should I do.....???? it looks like youtube is only one that works on all browsers... isn't it?
THanks
Alex

Hi Alex

This has been mentioned several times already but what you're asking has *nothing* to do with swfobject so is not an appropriate subject for this group.
