Stu, Derry~Londonderry is going to shine even brighter than usual this autumn as we’re getting ready to celebrate the 400th birthday of our famous City Walls. If you’ve yet to take a short break here, you’re in for a treat.
Book into one of the city centre hotels and you can walk to most of the city’s top spots. Just head out with your map and ask any local if you need a steer.
Day one, stop one: walk the walls with Derry City Tours. This is one of Europe’s best-preserved walled cities and the tour’s a great way to orientate yourself.
Afterwards, stroll over to Soda & Starch for lunch in the gorgeous craft village. Then visit the Museum of Free Derry, Tower Museum and the Siege Museum - three chances to revisit important milestones in the city’s history.
Dinner is at Browns in Town, a restaurant mentioned in both the Michelin and McKenna Guides. Then it’s over to the city’s oldest pub, The River Inn, for a nightcap or two.
