Welcome to your weekly newsletter from the Irish Film Institute!
 
We have a busy week ahead, including a screening of Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca on Thursday, introduced by award-winning storyteller Mary Kate O’Flanagan. We also welcome Die Hard writer Jeb Stuart for a Masterclass interview and screen delightful animated shorts in Feeling Fine as part of First Fortnight. Both of these events start at 11.00 this Sunday.

Further ahead in January, Abel Ferrara visits us for a special screening of his new film Tommaso on Wednesday 22nd while Terry Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote shows on Thursday 23rd, followed by a recorded Q&A with the filmmaker.

Opening on Friday are Bombshell (which recently picked up three Oscar nominations, including Best Actress for Charlize Theron), A Hidden Life from director Terrence Malick and Trey Edward Shults's Waves.

ACCESSIBLE CINEMA IN JANUARY 
Titles with accessible screenings in January include 1917, Bombshell, Waves, The Personal History of David Copperfield, The Lighthouse and Queen & Slim. Most screenings are also available with audio description; please get in touch if you need more info. 
IFI & TRADFEST 2020 SCREENINGS
Arthur MacCaig's doc A Song for Ireland traces the history of Ireland through music on Sat 25th. Sé Mo Laoch - Paddy Glackin a portrait of iconic musician on Sun 26th followed by a Q&A and a short musical set with director Ciarán Ó Maonaigh and Paddy Glackin.
JEB STUART MASTERCLASS 
Die Hard, The Fugitive, Another 48 Hours... You know the films, now hear about the craft that went into bringing these stories to life on the big screen from screenwriter Jeb Stuart. Special masterclass interview, Sunday 19th at 11.00. 
UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS
Acclaimed director Abel Ferrara visits the IFI on Wednesday 22nd for a Q&A following a screening of his new film Tommaso, and on Thursday 23rd we host an early screening of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, followed by a recorded Q&A with director Terry Gilliam. 
IFI & NATIONAL GALLERY: SCREENING + TOUR 
On Friday February 28th, join one of the National Gallery’s guides for a tour though a special LGBTQ+ collection, followed by a screening of Céline Sciamma’s critically acclaimed Portrait of a Lady on Fire at the IFI. Click for more information.

Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie star in Bombshell (nominated for three Academy Awards), while iconic filmmaker Terrence Malick returns with A Hidden Life alongside the critically acclaimed Waves from director Trey Edward Shults.
