A Message from Patrick T. Murphy, RHA Director
As I write, the tingle of anticipation that kept us going over the past months is fading as we can now see a real re-opening date for our galleries and studios. We will be able to, once more, welcome you to the RHA from Monday 10th May.
There will be measures in place to ensure a safe and risk free visit. Many of these procedures have been used over the past year and include: pre-booking of free admission tickets, hand sanitizing stations available, groups limited to four people, social distancing etc. We are also limiting our hourly attendance to 50 people. That is 50 people in our 2500 sq.m. facility so plenty of room to enjoy the art. And what art we have to share with you!
In the foyer, we are featuring a new work by Robert Ballagh, a triptych, a shrine to this period of Covid. In the Ashford Gallery, the large urban photographs of Fiona Hackett will bring a touch of US West coast to your visit. Upstairs, exciting paintings and sculpture by Damien Flood, a real tour de force by this artist. In the main Gallery, we will be showing an unexpected stylistic turn by Sean Scully as he embraces figuration to explore notions of childhood and indeed parenthood, in large, colour surging paintings.
It has been a long road though this pandemic and though vaccination proceeds at a steady pace we still must exercise care for ourselves and for each other. The RHA is a safe and welcoming venue for you to begin to exercise your art critical muscles and your delight in the authentic art experience. Our tours, artists talks and seminars will continue in their online presence for the foreseeable future and work has begun on our 191st Annual Exhibition which once again will take place in the autumn. Perhaps, by then, if all goes well, we can offer an even more normal and hospitable experience.
So book your free visit HERE! We look forward to seeing you and saying hello.
Patrick T. Murphy, RHA Director

RHA SCHOOL
Revisit: RHA Lecture Series, Available to View Online
Colin Martin RHA, Head of School:
Sam Keogh's immersive installations can initially appear anarchic in their fusion of live performance, sculpture and installation that are framed around a common theme or concept.
In this talk he traces the role that drawing plays in the framing of his work that references Science Fiction, Public Service Broadcasting and the National Museum..
