Hello Belle
I hope that all is fine with you?
Well, a Bank Holiday Weekend and I have realised that I never reminded people that both our wonderful 'Conversationally Yours' Poetry Conversation, and our '3rd Annual Cupid's Arrow' Love Poem Competition were due to end today.
NEW DEADLINE:
So I am pleased to say that the Closing Date for both competitions is now -
MIDNIGHT
on
MONDAY
3RD of MAY 2021
This had caused a wee bit of consternation (whinging) so hopefully that will help.
This does of course mean that I am similarly extending the rather wonderful Karen Mooney and Gaynor Kane's promotion, where by you are invited to enter either of these competition for FREE if you treat yourself or somebody else to their rather excellent 'Penned In' pamphlet. All proceeds are going to Action Cancer so it is a fine gesture and a grand cause.
Full details of how to do that HERE
So that is something for the weekend, but I am also proud and pleased to be able to announce the results for both our 'Slim Volume of One's Own' and 'Selected or Neglected' Competitions, below.
Both of these were a complete nightmare to judge in different ways, and I really do want to thank everybody that took part and obviously congratulate the winners/shortlisted poets who are, basically, many colours of awesome.
Have a lovely weekend
Mark
This is only the second time we have run a ‘Slim Volume of One’s Own’ Pamphlet Competition, and I am more than happy to say that it has ‘struck a chord’ as the range and quality of the entries has been somewhat epic and not a little humbling.
As a bit of background – pamphlets are the absolute core to everything we do at Hedgehog, but I was conscious that we only really offered short collections to first time poets, which is daft as there was never a good reason for that.
The downside to popularity is that it takes a lot longer to judge all of the entries, but I am pleased to say that I got it down to a shortlist and ultimately a winner.
And this is a seriously fine winner indeed and in the end despite the shortlisted poets running it close, I went with Ciaran McDermott’s Roaming which I am pleased to say will be published in 2022.
Congratulations to Ciaran and many thanks to all who took the time to send their work in.
Winner: Ciaran McDermott for Roaming
The full shortlist was:
- Ciaran McDermott
- Sally Durham
- Peter A
- Karl Fisher
- Riff Poynton
- Miranda Day
Highly Commended:
Peter A and Miranda Day
I’m really pleased to say that after a great deal of soul searching and, well, reading, I’m pleased to be able to announce both the winners and shortlisted poets for our Third Annual ‘Selected or Neglected’ Book Collection Competition.
The Shortlisted Poets, are:
- Tanya Prudente
- Elizabeth Barton
- Alexandra Appel
- Phil Williams
- Gill McEvoy
- Fiona Pitt-Kethley
This was a horrendously hard decision that has taken me far longer than intended, but I am really pleased to say that in the end I really couldn’t decide between two poets and so for the first time we have Joint Winners – Gill McEvoy and Fiona Pitt-Kethley both of whom will be invited to have their collection published in beautiful book form during 2022.
Thank you again to everybody that took the time to collate their work and submit it for this.
