Welcome From the Chair

Hi everyone,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter from Cannes! It’s been a really exciting and full few days here. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors Coutts, IMDb and Sargent-Disc, who have supported our activities at the festival.

Our drinks reception on Friday night was a huge success. Lovely to see so many of our members there and we also met a huge number of non-members, who we look forward to working with in the future. At other events throughout the festival, we’ve also met a number of very useful future contacts for WFTV.

Also attending Cannes, were three of our WFTV mentees, Malinda Kaur, Sara Sehdev and Coralie Rose (pictured below left), and we managed to go out for meal with Sara and Malinda on Saturday night, where as you can see from the photo we all shared a few drinks! And it was really great to find out more from all three of them about how the mentoring scheme is already helping their careers.

And I’d like to thank Miriam, our senior awards and events producer, and Lisa, our awards and events producer for all their dedicated hard work in making our visit to Cannes such a success.

Back in London, the Short Film Surgery with board member Satwant Gill that I mentioned in the last newsletter starts on 10 June and we welcome AmyLouise Mill on Wednesday as our new Office and Membership Administrator. We are all really looking forward to working with her.

Best
Liz

Events Round-Up

Well, my first Cannes was pretty special.

What an incredible experience, and so fantastic to be able to meet in person our friends from across the world. It was great to bump into so many of our members out here, and I am in complete awe of some of the schedules you were working to! It sounds like there were back-to-back meetings, screenings and networking events and I hope everyone came home feeling just as invigorated and inspired as we are; that said, I am very much looking forward to seeing my own bed soon!

Liz mentioned how great it was to see so many of you at the drinks reception on Friday, and you can see a selection of pictures from the evening below. If you'd like to see more, you can find the full gallery on the WFTV website HERE.

June is creeping closer, and we’re looking forward to starting the month with a preview screening of Gloria Bell; you may notice on the booking page that you can bring a guest along to this one, so do feel free to book that extra ticket. The rest of the month is looking busy too which is exciting, and we’re already planning events for July and August too. We’re thinking about ways to get together with our members and enjoy the (guaranteed…) warm weather, keep your eyes peeled!

Best
Miriam
