With this new print series Alice has taken on Alex White’s belief that, in graphic design, ‘no individual part is viewed as more important than the whole design’. These idiosyncratic, elemental forms strike a certain kind of balance between order and chaos, with every element forming part of the whole. By turning to collage in her creative process, that balance of order and chaos tends to creep in rather than being imposed, bringing humour and play to Alice’s arrangements.

Influenced by modernist painters like Ellsworth Kelly, Jean Arp and Matisse, Alice takes to heart August Endell’s belief that even if abstract forms signify nothing, represent nothing, remind us of nothing, they still have the power arouse our souls as deeply and strongly as any other art form. No matter how simple those forms are, there is always something new to grasp.
