One of our favorite films is The Shawshank Redemption.

Based off of a Stephen King short story, the film tells the tale of Andy Dufresne, an innocent man who is wrongly accused of the murder of his wife and sentenced to life in prison at Shawshank Penitentiary. After years of being stuck in prison, Andy finally has enough, and uses his cunning and shear willpower to mastermind a daring escape to freedom.

Right before he's ready to break out, Andy tells his best friend and fellow prisoner Red that it's time to "get busy living or get busy dying."

If you've seen the movie, you'll understand the power of that message.

Andy is tired of dreaming about living his life outside the prison. He knows that it's up to him to take action and change things if he finally wants to make his dreams a reality and break free of Shawshank.

Believe it or not, that's a lot like filmmaking.

It's easy to get stuck always dreaming about making films, but never actually taking action to do it.

I mean, it's a lot of work to make a film.

To take the time to write out that script.

To organize your crew.

Find the right actors.

Do all of the editing and post-production work to put everything together.

But in the end, isn't it always worth it?

Isn't it better to break free of whatever's been holding you back from achieving your own filmmaking dreams?

So get busy filming or get busy dying.

Registration for the Four Points Film Project is open now. If you make a film this November 8th-11th, it probably won't make you rich and famous. It may end up just being one small step in the span of your filmmaking career.

But it's a step that is guaranteed to leave you with a completed short film, an amazing experience, and a giant leap closer to achieving your filmmaking dreams, whatever they may be.
