Welcome From the Chair

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to this week’s edition of our newsletter, with Miriam, our Senior Awards and Event Producer’s weekly update on WFTV events and our round-up of news and opportunities across the industry.

It’s been a really busy time in the WFTV office with a total of eight events last week and this, that have covered everything from finance and screenings and this week we have a fantastic  event with BAFTA winner Sally Wainwright in Leeds on Thursday. So a huge thanks to all of the events team, including our regional reps, for continuing to provide such a wide range of high quality events.

There are now just over two weeks before the WFTV Pat Llewellyn Bursary closes. The bursary offers development funding for factual based or factual entertainment TV proposals. Each bursary is worth £10,000. It’s open to all women, regardless of your level of experience. That’s because we want this award to be truly inclusive and diverse, so even if you have never made a programme before you can enter, so it’s very definitely worth applying!

Have a great week.

Best,
Liz

WFTV Events Round-Up

Another busy week ahead for the WFTV team!  We’re really looking forward to our screening this evening in collaboration with London Film School and Feminista Film Festival. There’ll be five short-films screened, a showcase of some of the very best award entries. Tomorrow, Scarlet and I are heading to Leeds for an evening with Sally Wainwright and Anna Foster.

Not only are we looking forward to a fantastic event, we’re also looking forward to meeting lots of new members. And don’t worry if you can’t be there in person, because we’ll also be streaming the event live on our Facebook page. Make sure you’re with us online at 8:20pm and enjoy it from the comfort of your own sofa/desk/kitchen table (delete as appropriate). We’re really grateful to everyone involved helping make this happen: Northern Ballet, The Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, Lookout Point, and Barbara Govan. There are still tickets left for both of these events, and we’d love to see you there!

On Wednesday, our friends at UKTV have offered us some tickets to a screening of Traces and a Q&A with Executive Producer Nicola Shindler, writer Amelia Bullmore and actors Molly Windsor and Laura Fraser. The location is currently top secret, but lucky ticket holders will be emailed on Wednesday morning with details. To wrap up our events week, our WFTV mentor scheme producer Tracy Forsyth is hosting a panel with four fantastic South Asian women who are changing the face of the TV industry; this event is open to members and non-members, so please do invite friends and colleagues along.

A big thank you again to the team at Hello Halo in Glasgow for helping us organise our Glasgow Networking evening last Thursday, it was wonderful to meet so many passionate and interested women, and we’re already planning events for later in the year. I hope this newsletter is reaching some new Scottish WFTV supporters this week.

Our events schedule is looking jam-packed for the rest of 2019 (well done Lisa!), and we’re already planning ahead to 2020. So now’s the time to send in your ideas by e-mail to
li...@wftv.org.uk. It’s really helpful for our inspiration, and important for us to ensure we are responding to your feedback.

Best,
Miriam
