WELCOME FROM THE CHAIR & CEO
Liz Tucker | WFTV Chair
Katie Bailiff | WFTV CEO
Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a good Easter break, and that you’ve enjoyed some of the bizarre weather combinations that the UK has offered up this bank holiday weekend!

With the green shoots of production recovery now in evidence we thought we’d invite you to some encouraging back-to-work events, and so we’ve formally declared this month Upskilling April.

To inspire you we’ve lined up CV workshops, a session on mastering the cover letter, an event on how to be a great freelancer, an introduction to edit producing and a workshop on how to produce the perfect trailer for pitching your fledgling idea or marketing your finished feature.

Just a reminder that we now have a wealth of events on our Catch-Up Hub so do click through and enjoy here.

Many thanks for all those of you who have applied for the Pat Llewellyn Bursary award. We are now in the process of reading and assessing all the ideas that have come in. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at the end of May and an announcement will be made shortly afterwards.

Katie & Liz

New Sponsors for our Online Events Programme

On behalf of all of us at WFTV, we would like to say a huge thanks to all our new online events sponsors: Argonon, BBC, Eikon, Envy, Eon, IMDb, ITV, MBSE and Netflix. They will continue to support our WFTV Awards too. Their very generous support at this difficult time has made it possible for WFTV to continue with our weekly online events programme, for which we are incredibly grateful.

WFTV EVENTS ROUND UP
Claudia Mehrej
Hello everyone,

Welcome to April with WFTV. We’re excited to kick off this month with two fantastic screening opportunities available for members this week.

Following our Q&A with director, writer and producer Emerald Fennell last week, available to watch now on the Catch-Up Hub, you can still sign up to watch the BAFTA nominated Promising Young Woman here
Members are also invited to watch the BAFTA nominated Wolfwalkers and gain an insight into the making of the animated, family friendly film that draws on the rich history of Irish mythology and folklore. As part of this opportunity, WFTV members will receive a screening link to Wolfwalkers plus access to a pre-recorded virtual animation masterclass. There’s also an in conversation with Nora Twomey, producer of Wolfwalkers and Partner and Creative Director of Cartoon Saloon available via our Catch-Up Hub here.

Significant changes to the Ofcom Broadcasting Code come into force this month following the regulator’s review of duty of care and contributors who take part in TV programmes. You can get up to speed on these changes on 8 April with Nigel Abbas, Founder and CEO of specialist TV Law Firm Abbas Media Law, who will summarise the key changes to the Ofcom Broadcasting Code and explain how they affect the various stages of production.

Speed Networking: Find Your Crew is a great opportunity for some 1-2-1 speed networking on 12 April. At this event Heads of Production and Production Managers can meet a variety of crew and specialists from the WFTV membership, so if you’re in production management and looking to meet contacts for your next project please do sign up.

See you online,

Claudia
