2019 - Are You Ready For It?

WFTV Board members

The New Year had barely gotten underway when we received the latest Celluloid Ceiling report from Dr Martha Lauzen. It showed that only 8% of directors of the 250 top domestic grossing films in the US last year were women, reminding us (as if we needed it) that this will be another year in which women must fight to be heard, to get a place at the table and to be given the opportunities we deserve. But fight we will. Women in Film & TV (UK) was set up almost thirty years ago and our goal remains the same now as it was then: equality.

2018 felt significant; driven by #MeToo and #TimesUp, women in our industry united in a way never seen before and - along with male allies - we stood together to challenge injustices and seek meaningful change. In 2019 we must go further, and faster. WFTV will continue to support and celebrate women in film and TV, and campaign for their interests, because true equality is about representation and inclusion at all levels and in all areas of the industry. We wish every one of you a happy and successful 2019 full of positive change.
