This is what most actors do when they get the sides for a self tape... They read it once, make a couple of quick decisions, decide what they are going to do - if it's a scene as a doctor they know the way doctors speak so they match that, if it's a love scene they use a soft tone and match that, if it's a cop scene - an intense tone and match that, in other words they make the same choices and play it the same way as every other actor up for the same role - Heres' the kicker!
Then they wonder WHY they are not getting any acting work!! And I really get why some actors do that, it's easier.
Takes less time....but here's the thing:
When you think of all the actors in movies that have excited you challenged you moved you do THEY act all "vanilla", are THEY "white cats in a snowstorm"? Or do they do something different?
When you look at all really successful actors they have one thing in common they know how to disrupt a scene, they choose to stand out, not in a crazy look at me way but in a way that makes you pay attention. They make unique choices that bring it to life.
They add a signature to everything they do.
So right now you have a choice...
YOU can continue running around like a white cat in a snowstorm, and to be honest that's what most actors will do, or you can put a tornado in your self tapes.
