variables explorer empty when running a pyQt script

Dear all,
I have a small sized GUI (visible on the top-left over spyder GUI) script written in pyQt to debug, up to now I used "print" in my codes but with callback related to the GUI, the "print style" for debugging is messy.
The variables explorer is empty as the script runs. I suppose this is a spyder bug or a config problem, how could I check the latter possibility?
