Ray,

Are you at an ssh command line to your linux server or at the console?  Sometimes wine needs to/tries to open up a window and for that to work you'll need to be running a GUI (X/Windows).  I've seen this normally when I first setup my account to use wine.  Once that's done you normally can run wine/msconvert without a GUI.

Ray, Which version of wine did you use? I tried some months ago, and at least at the time, the version of Wine I was using (on centos 6.3) could not install the .net 4.0 libraries.
